Jimmy’s Killer Prawns
More prawns than you can shake a stick at, plus a whole range of other seafood-shaped treats 2 Reviews

There are those who love prawns, and for whom a place like Jimmy’s Killer Prawns would be their chosen house of worship. I, for one, was made a bit nervous by the name. Killer prawns? I should hope not. My stomach clenched at the image that these homicidal crustaceans painted.
When I found Jimmy’s, tucked away behind an escalator on the third floor of BurJuman, it was packed – not what I was expecting on a Monday night. The menu boasted their shellfish had an ‘addictive taste’. Perhaps they injected each prawn with nicotine (we’re joking, of course); this would explain why finding a table was such a chore.
Contrary to what I expected, Jimmy’s didn’t just offer prawns, but all things fishy, including sushi. They also had several land-based alternatives, but I decided to stick with what the place was named for. I opted for ‘Jimmy’s prawn promise’, which consisted of fat, juicy shrimps slit down the middle, grilled and served with rice and a trio of sauces. For all my apprehension, the meaty morsels were tender and tasty, in a fast-food kind of way. Still, they beat out McDonald’s or Chili’s any day.
The portion, which was absolutely massive, was more than this single diner could bare. I’d have regretted ordering the cheese garlic bread as a starter, if it hadn’t been so chunky, cheesy and gorgeously greasy. When it was time to call for the cheque, my server was extremely prompt. To make the whole service experience easier, each table at Jimmy’s has a button that you can push to set off a red light, which tells the servers you need attention.
Next time around, I’ll definitely drag a friend in toe to help me polish off the plate. Though I must warn: this is absolutely not a date place (I blush at the thought of my honey watching me plow through five napkins to wipe my cocktail-sauce drenched chin).
