Joe’s Café

Hip crowd but less impressive food at Dubai Mall 11 Reviews

Tucked next to the UK fashion brand Joseph on the upper echelons of The Dubai Mall, Joe’s Café seems to attract the svelte, designer-label swathed crowd. It’s not clear what Joe’s diners do, other than shop and look incredibly good and important at all times. My date and I couldn’t help but feel a little out of our league. And, when we tried to order water, we couldn’t help but feel a little affronted when we forced to spend Dhs28 on a small bottle of Voss.

The menu read well, with several surprisingly healthy options in addition to the standard soup, salad and pasta mix. As it happened, our mental image of the food exceeded what was put in front of us. The chicken came out shredded – a bizarre method that seemed to ensure the bird would taste dry, chewy and dull. The steamed vegetables that came with the dish were themselves overcooked, limp and loveless.

My date’s dish came out with a heavy cream sauce that concealed some dull-tasting scallops. The result was disappointing, especially as the meagre handful of prawns and scallops on her plate cost Dhs68.

It seems Joe’s Café likes to think of itself somewhat as The Dubai Mall’s ‘It’ restaurant, given the clientele we saw on our visit. While it’s true that there isn’t much competition in the mall, the café under-delivers on a few levels. The price isn’t exceptionally expensive, but with people watching their wallets, the café doesn’t deliver the best value for money. If Joe’s really wants to be hip, it needs to start upping the quality of the food that comes out of the kitchen.

The bill (for two)
2x Voss water
Dhs56
1x Green tea Dhs18
1x Pineapple juice Dhs24
1x Scallops and Prawns Dhs68
1x Grilled chicken Dhs39
Subtotal Dhs205
Service Dhs20.50
Total Dhs220.50

Over hyped and under delivered! What a waste of time - from being told that kitchen wasn't working at lunchtime on a Saturday, to the extremely poor service, we were less than impressed to say the least. Stylish is the only nice thing I can say about this food outlet.

The cafe could still redeem itself if the food were good, but sadly, it failed there as well. Take your well-earned dirham and go to somewhere else.

I went there with my friends to try the Joe"s here in Dubai, it was pretty good as if i was in London, but seriously the Rissotto prawn which i had was much better than what i have tasted in London (no offense) and the view is overwhelming! well sanitized, good service! I definitely recomend this to everyone!

My husband and I have visited Joe's cafe a number of times. More recently with my daughter and her boyfriend who were visiting from the Uk. The combination of the Dancing Fountains, background music from Andrea Bocellli and the ambience of Joe's Cafe - perfect. We have always received a warn welcome from both the manager and the staff. The service has always been effeicient and friendly and the food, albeit we have only tried the desserts, has always been good.
We have never felt it to be an 'It' place purely because It' people are self-labelled!

i went there with my husband after i read about the london branch and how the food there is amazing! first we were greeted with a not so freindly irish waiter then we waited for more than 20 mins to give our orders.. and when my crab salad came the stench was unbearable, when we called the waiter and told him about it he imediately replied this is fresh crab that we get daily (ya right!). i orderdered the caesar salad instaed it it was worse... the dressing smelled weired croutons where stale and in general it was tastless. my husband ordered the scones with cloted cream and marmalade and to be honest even if i'm not a brit i would have baked a better scones! (without the raisins...)

I was there recently. The only great feather is the fountain. The food was average and the price, lets not talk about it.
The waiters were freindly and nice but I thought it somewhat rude, that the manager was sitting at the counter, having his meal and bossing round his staff, with his mouth full. Not professional at all
