This is one of Dubai’s most bizarre venues. You are unlikely to find it unless you are lost and stumble into it mistakenly, and then you will unexpectedly find yourself amidst a profusion of red plastic apples.

Situated on the third floor of the largely uninhabited and virtually deserted Twin Towers building, the café covers a huge area which is sandwiched between an Iranian restaurant and a small food court.

There is quite a lot of seating in this bright white space; a void devoid of any atmosphere, so we headed straight outside to the terrace overlooking the creek. The view is fabulous. Thinking we must be the only people to know about The Apple we were astounded to find that it was packed. A popular place with young locals, many tables were occupied by preoccupied, sheisha smoking couples in their twenties.

The hot and cold Lebanese buffet at just Dhs30 is justifiably unembellished and is great value. We had less luck with the sandwiches that we ordered from the small menu.

My cheese baguette (Dhs10) was the same droopy one we saw languishing in the display chiller on our way in (my hopes of getting a freshly made one were dashed). The club sandwich (Dhs18) was served with spectacularly floppy chips, and they were cold and pale too.

However we enjoyed our fruit mocktails and the view, and the heavy scent of apple sheisha smoke added great ethnicity to the experience. For a good value feed and excellent view you can’t do better than a table on the terrace at the Apple Café and Restaurant.
