Kozi Africafé
African treats at The Dubai Mall 1 Reviews

You might have passed the signs advertising Kozi Africafé on the lower levels of The Dubai Mall. It promises to deliver all the splendours of the African continent on a plate. While it doesn’t exactly do this (the menu’s pretty limited and, food-wise, there are only a couple of options with any African influence), what it does provide is an attractive, relaxing respite from the mania of The Dubai Mall. It helps that the café is tucked away on the second floor, in a spot that thankfully seems miles away from the deafening stereo at the ice-skating rink. Chilled safari-style music and cushy chairs make the place a lovely spot for a post-shopping refresher.
I arrived at Africafé alone, book in hand, and couldn’t have been happier. A little marker on the table advertised hot chocolate shots, and it just sounded too good to pass up. What came out was a mini tea cup full of a thick, tarlike drink with a few not-yet-melted chunks of pure chocolate. The rich drink almost quelled all hunger, but I persevered and ordered one of the few African-related items on the menu: a wrap stuffed with sliced boerewors, cheese and caramelised onions. It made for a filling and satisfying lunch. The sausage was dense and spicy and the whole thing was a simple affair, which made it all the more pleasurable.
Before leaving I scoffed down a slice of lemon meringue pie. It was a passable dessert. The crust was a tad tough, the meringue a bit too eggy tasting, and the lemon a slightly jarring paste-like texture. Both layers were also teeth-clenchingly sweet. But perhaps I just happened not to pick the best dessert in the bunch. The Ethiopian coffee, however, was a lovely, full bodied cup of caffeine. Still, as atmosphere and a hassle-free lunch go, Africafé makes a wonderful place for a pit stop in The Dubai Mall.
