The Plaice

But only when the late night munchies set in Reviews

Waiting time 15 minutes
Accuracy of order All present and correct
Packaging Polystyrene boxes
Temperature of food Warm
Leftovers A few crumbs of fish for the cat

We were swamped in pungent, thick, oily, fishy, warm air as we entered The Plaice, despite there not being much frying on that night. We were the only customers in the shop at about 8pm. From the menu offering standard chippie favourites as well as haggis and chips, pies and a few desserts, we ordered cod and plaice, chips, mushy peas and salad.

The chips looked as though they were soft when they went into the box. When we tucked into them moments later, on the way home, this was confirmed. The batter, a soft, paper-thin layer of it, came away from the fish as we cut into it. The fish was soft and tasty, but lacked seasoning, and the batter tasted predominantly of old oil. The mushy peas had a slight translucence to them and the flavour was mild. The salad was standard fare. Open daily until 1am, The Plaice is worth remembering when late night starvation sets in.
