I’d like to go somewhere with lots of character… Lamcy Plaza in Oud Metha is the place for you. For Oud Metha, Bur Dubai and Karama residents, it’s a thrifty one-stop-shop with quirky, budget-friendly stores.
What’s there? British shoppers will be familiar with the discount fashion store Matalan and eclectic Japanese store Daiso sells all manner of novelty and essential items for a standard Dhs7. It’s a place to find discount items, key-cutting stores and shoe repair centres. A Dewa payment centre, Air Arabia check-in desk and other useful services make it a handy community mall.
Besides budget stores, what else can I find here? The adjoining Lamcy Cinema is famous for showing new Bollywood movies every week, many before they are premiered in Mumbai. Stars including Bipasha Basu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonu Sood have appeared at Lamcy Plaza events recently, also attracting a film-loving crowd.
And our usual question: what can we eat there? Regular readers will know we love momos and the Himalayan flavours at Momos Magic are real treat. The Nepalese dumplings come in chicken, prawn, vegetable and even sweet varieties here. Other food court options include the North Indian Oye Punjabi, vegetarian and vegan Indian restaurant Dosa Plaza and Yemeni spot Mandilicious – all more interesting than standard food court eateries.
A mechanical clown used as decoration in Lamcy Plaza has no known source of power, however, rumour has it that it occasionally drops down from the ceiling for a wonder through the food court and a bite to eat.
