Beloved of suburban mums for its instantly recognisable floral prints and polka dots, Cath Kidston has finally landed its first standalone stores in Dubai.
City Centre Me’aisem nabbed the first store, before Mall of the Emirates’ much-hyped expansion heralded the arrival of the second, just a few weeks later. A word to the mall-weary: head for the new City Centre to check out the range (it’s an infinitely quieter destination, and well worth putting up with some light stalking for – but more on that later).
Sitting at the intersection of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road (follow it as it becomes Al Fay Road), this shiny-floored new mall is currently holding first place on our list of favourite shopping spots. Clean, quiet and laid out in a blissfully uncomplex straight line, Cath Kidston (and every other store inside) is extremely easy to find.
What’s not so easy, unfortunately, is perusing the range of country cottage-worthy crockery, aprons and apparel without the hovering presence of an over-attentive member of the shop’s staff. There may only be two of them in there, but you can bet your dwindling dirhams there will always be one right behind you. Or peering round the bag display at you. Or beaming wildly at you while standing no more than 23 centimetres from your left elbow.
But persevere. If you’re a fan of quaint florals and the occasional fauna motif, Cath Kidston practically wrote the book.
