Looking for the perfect denim fit? MAF Fashion buyer Margaret Cannon pairs jeans with body type
1 For showing off curves: Lucky’s Zoe jeans have a way of flattering fuller bodies. ‘They are mid-rise, which means they hug curves without pronouncing them,’ says Cannon. ‘It gives the legs a leaner look.’ Details like buckles and custom buttons also give the jeans character – a must for any fashion-forward diva.
2 For waifs: According to Cannon, slender-hipped gals can fake some hot curves in Lil Maggie jeans, which can be bought from Lucky Brand Jeans. This is because they’re both slim-fitting and ultra low-rise. ‘This pair fits very well through the seat and the thigh. Plus, the faded thigh makes the legs look fuller.’
3 For average builds: Even for the typically-built woman, finding the right pair of jeans can be trying. The Newport is one of those rare jeans that fits most body types, though the mid-rise will come as a relief to anyone sick of sucking in a muffin top over a pair of low-riders. Cannon says this pair best suits ‘the confident and determined girl who doesn’t want to flaunt or hide her body.’
Pair with: A simple tee. Available at Juicy Couture, Emirates Towers (04 330 0016). Other location: Marina Mall (04 434 2638). Dhs999.
4 For skinny legs: Stickpin legs fare well in Juicy Couture’s Tianna jeans, because they are extremely slim-fit (in fact, they’re almost tapered). Even better, they have a double-constructed waistband, designed to give the bum a bit of a lift. While they’re a bit pricier, they’re stylish enough to be worth it. ‘These jeans are definitely in-keeping with what’s hot this season,’ says Cannon.
Pair with: Knee high boots. Available at Juicy Couture, Emirates Towers (04 330 0016). Other location: Marina Mall (04 434 2638). Dhs999.
5 For big-bummed babes: Mexx’s OCI jeans are perfect for larger women. They are roomy in the seat, and they’re midrise. The flared leg not only adds style, but takes attention away from large thighs. Though Cannon admits these jeans ‘also fit many other body types.’
6 For boyish bods: Charm Jeans are boot cut and are perfect for thin girls who want to accentuate their curves. ‘The skinny girl with a boyish body will love this jean, as it makes for a feminine fit,’ says Cannon. The embroidery on the back pockets gives this denim added womanly oomph.
