Good for kids World of Stories On now until June 29 at Mercato Mall Everyone’s favourite fairytales are brought to life in both English and Arabic, with chances to meet the characters.
The Bucket Boys
On now until July 6 at Festival Centre (outside Ikea furniture store) From 4.30pm every day, percussive duo The Bucket Boys will make as much noise as possible with buckets, bin lids, pots, pans and street signs. Be prepared to laugh a lot – and get a headache.
Go wacky at Wafi
On now until August 7 at Wafi City You will find giant butterflies, gold people mimicking your every move, a clown balloon maker, a rollerskating blur of yellow, wacky paparazzi transported from the 1980s and an inflatable parade throughout DSS. Sounds, well… really annoying if we’re honest.
Dance shows June 24-June 27 at Al Ghurair City Tap and hip-hop dancers show off their skills on stage. Also performing July 5-July 7 and July 16-July 18.
Pinocchio Puppet Show June 28-June 30 at Al Ghurair City We’re interested to see how they will turn the puppet into a real-life boy, using puppets…
Good for kids Modhesh stops by June 29 & July 27 at Wafi Modhesh is set to roll up in his new wheels at 6pm and 8pm, bringing with him a bunch of comedic performers and acrobats. Even if you can’t stand him, say hello, as you could get a free gift.
Kids Wonder Talent Show July 1-July 4 at Al Ghurair City Ridiculously bendy children show off their freaky flexi skills.
The show goes on July 2-August 7 at Mercato Mall Ballet, salsa and flamenco dancers take to the stage and a woman called Carmen will be wondering around serenading everyone with Latin songs. There will also be a painter who can create a ‘masterpiece’ in 20 minutes.
Good for kids Dora The Explorer July 5-July 21 at Mirdif City Centre As well as seeing Dora go on a musical adventure, kids can also learn to communicate with her and her monkey friends in English and Spanish (and monkey, presumably).
Circusfera Show July 8-July 11 at Al Ghurair City Jugglers, acrobats and other colourful characters perform in this mini roaming circus.
Musician Show July 12-July 14 at Al Ghurair City A gang of mini-maestros entertain crowds with ‘electrical classical’ music. Also performing July 22-25.
Hairspray July 13-July 17 at Ductac, Mall of the Emirates Experienced West End performers will tread the boards alongside young local talent in this production that features singing, dancing and, of course, big hair.
Fame the Musical July 13-July 17 at The First Group Theatre, Madinat Jumeirah We all know the theme tune and can’t resist the jazz hands so take the chance to see this brilliant all-singing, all-dancing production.
Hip-Hop Break- Dancing Kids July 19-July 21 at Al Ghurair City Yes that is its official name – and it says it all really. We’ll be checking them out, fo sho.
Good for kids Stories of SpongeBob July 22–August 7 at Dubai Festival City Catch SpongeBob, his rigidly shaped pants and his friends as they reenact favourite stories from the TV series.
Majorettes Kids Show July 26-28 at Al Ghurair City Little ones impress with their dance moves – and routines as coordinated as their uniforms. Also performing Aug 5-Aug7.
Good for kids Meet Modhesh (again) July 28 at Mercato It’s Mercato’s turn to play host to the yellow one and his friends who will be singing and entertaining shoppers.
Good for kids Clown Balloon Maker July 29-Aug 1 at Al Ghurair City That pesky clown is roaming around another mall with his box of balloons and tricks. Ah, we like him really.
Rola Bola Danny Show Aug 2-Aug 4 at Al Ghurair City Watch Danny do acrobatic tricks while balancing on precarious objects. Impressive stuff.
Health, beauty and fashion
Beauty and You June 28-July 7 at Festival Centre Enjoy free beauty consultations for skin and hair, on-the-spot makeovers, hairstyling demonstrations and summer beauty tips.
Good for kids
T-shirt painting July 1-August 5 at Mercato Mall Kids can make a mess and then wear it. Sessions run noon-8pm.
Sheila and Abaya Fashion
July 8-July 11 at The Dubai Mall Showcasing local and regional designers, this glamorous fashion show is the only one for sheilas and abayas and it features some truly stunning designs.
Health and Hygiene
July 30-August 7 at Festival Centre This stand will be offering hygiene demonstrations, health awareness and free screenings.
Kids’ Fashion Week
August 1-August 7 at Deira City Centre As glitzy and glam as the grown-up versions, this mini-fashion week features shows, the local catwalk stars of tomorrow and global brands such as Benetton, Diesel, Moschino, Pumpkin Patch, Kenzo and more.
Middle East Junior Chef of the Year On now until June 29 at BurJuman More than 600 chefs aged under 25 will compete for this prestigious title. If you ask nicely, they might let you sample some dishes…
June 30-July 7 at Mercato Mall Make your own delicious Cinnabon buns between 5pm-9pm.
Jumeirah Giant Charity Cake Sale
July 9 at Mercato Mall From 3pm you can buy a cake from, quite possibly, the biggest cake stall there ever was. Prices start at Dhs30 and all proceeds go to the Dubai Autism Centre.
Good for kids Alice in Wonderland Tea Party
July 14 at Mercato Mall Kids can enter the Alice in Wonderland-inspired fancy dress competition from July 1-July 10 at the customer service desk and if they are picked as one of the best, they can join the tea party at Paul’s Café.
Art and Culture
Collectors’ Exhibition July 12-July 24 at BurJuman See a collection of unique, record-breaking and downright weird objects, from fashion and jewellery to coins and cars, in this interesting exhibition.
Min Bladi Al Emarat
July 17-July 26 at The Dubai Mall Emirati culture and handicrafts are celebrated and displayed here, featuring activity corners traditional shows, and competitions.
Expeditions of the Arts
July 20-August 7 at Mercato Mall Check out the sculptures, pottery, mosaics and paintings, usually on display at Dubai International Art Centre, for free from July 20-July 28. After that, street artists will be graffiti-ing the pavements of Mercato – and you can vote for your favourite.
Indoor Beach Football On now until July 11 at Festival Centre It’s too hot to play outdoors so, while everyone’s in the World Cup spirit, Festival Centre have brought the beautiful game indoors.
July 25-July 31 at Mirdif City Centre Not your traditional Olympics, what with a crawling race and three-legged runs, this is strictly for kids aged nine months to 10 years (and their parents can join in).
