This charity drive, a collaboration between Dubai-based marathon runner Tori Leckie and local charity SmartLife, aims to provide labourers with sneakers to compete in the SmartCup cricket tournament in February. Dubai Shopping Festival Today is the first day of a month-long bonanza of sales and events taking place throughout the city. With more than 6,000 outlets participating, as well as stores at the Global Village complex, this year the event is expected to be bigger than ever. A variety of entertainment, including concerts, is scheduled throughout the festival. An opening fireworks show will take place on Thursday January 5 and will run along both sides of the creek to the lagoon at Festival Centre.
