This week: smoking slippers at Level Shoe District, faux tattoos and HTC’s new ad campaign.
Gents, if you’re not yet acquainted with this season’s smoking slipper you need to head down to Level Shoe District (04 501 6690) immediately. For the first time in the Middle East, US velvet slipper brand Del Toro can be snapped up at The Dubai Mall’s luxe shoe emporium from September 1. The autumn/winter 2013 collection has been designed exclusively for this region and the shoes feature motifs of palm trees and landmarks including the Burj Khalifa and Palm Jumeirah. Favoured by dapper dudes including actor Liam Hemsworth and rapper Theophilus London, these chic Italian-made kicks are the rich man’s Converse.
Meanwhile, if you thought temporary tattoos were a trend long put to bed with scrunchies and hypercolour we have some slightly off-putting news. French beauty brand Bourjois (04 339 9383) has just launched Faux & Fabulous stick-on tattoo kits, with ‘urban’-style designs, which include some Rihanna rip-offs and the usual clichés. They may not be to everyone’s taste, but they’re a good reason to shun the real deal.
Lastly, charismatic actor Robert Downey Jnr. is the star of HTC’s new advertising campaign ‘Here’s to Change’, a brand-building initiative which aims to reinvent the brand’s image. The actor signed a two-year deal with the mobile phone brand to be the phace of the firm. Search ‘Robert Downey Jnr and HTC’ on YouTube to view the campaign.
