This week: MoE’s new expansion plans, Bollywood stars and an anniversary.
Just when you thought malls in Dubai couldn’t possibly have any more tricks up their sleeves, Mall of the Emirates (04 377 2000) has announced plans for a Dhs1 billion expansion project. Set to be completed by 2015, the massive retail project includes a fashion district with 30 new international stores, a sports and leisure precinct, a slew of new dining options and the expansion of VOX Cinemas. Construction on the fashion district has already started (which explains the renovations taking place near the interiors shops on the first floor) and stores will be open by 2014.
Meanwhile, shoppers at suburban Mirdif mall Arabian Center (04 284 5555) had a mini brush with fame last week, when Bollywood royalty stopped in to surprise fans with a special guest appearance. Shahid Kapoor and Illeana D’Cruz came out to promote their latest film Phata Poster Nikla Hero and shared highlights about making the movie in the Night Court Area on the ground floor.
Lastly, home-grown shopping hub Boutique 1 (04 395 1200) has reached a commendable retail milestone this month, celebrating its tenth anniversary. From its humble beginnings as a standalone boutique in Emirates Towers, the store has gone on to open three other outlets, an online boutique and remains a unisex go-to for hard-to-find brands in Dubai. Until next week.
