There's more for fashionable folk than you might think
Al Barsha Mall Al Barsha’s other mall. Often over-shadowed by Mall of the Emirates, it houses a selection of fashion stores, restaurants such as French Bakery café, and a Union Cooperative for groceries and cheap fruit and veg. It’s not the all-singing all-dancing mall that MoE is, but it certainly meets the needs of the residential community. Street 24, Al Barsha 2, www.albarshamall.ae (800 8889).
If you’re watching the calories, you’ll have to avert your eyes from this tempting boutique cake and confectionary shop. The shop not only sells beautiful fresh occasion cakes, but artisan chocolate and nut favours that can be customised for any occasion. The chocolate favours are all made locally in the company’s factory in Al Quoz. Emerald Building, Al Barsha 1, www.facebook.com/chocoachocolate (04 340 9092).
Lulu Hypermarket For all your grocery needs. Lulu gives you a variety of imported brands from Europe, America, Australia and the Philippines, as well as offering fresh options such as a fish market, roastery and sacks of nuts and seeds. Shopping bargains continue over three floors – the second floor houses a huge department store where you get pretty much everything from vacuum cleaners and TVs to exercise bikes and maternity wear. Al Barsha 1, uae.luluhypermarket.com (04 341 8888).
If you want to get new tailor-made threads or top-notch alterations try Panache. The shop specialises in evening wear, and can run up Pakistani dresses, business suits, customised clothing and alterations. It takes two to three days to make a casual dress, and a week to ten days for more elaborate styles. Tailoring from Dhs150, Al Habbai Building, Al Barsha 1 (04 399 0969).
