This German shoemaker was once synonymous with corduroy-wearing hippies… But then German model Heidi Klum designed some footwear for them and suddenly the glamour was there. Everyone wanted a pair of ‘Birks’ and the shoes that were traditionally worn by vegetarians, beardy-liberals and ironic Generation Xer’s were now in demand from the fashions set. The fuss has now died down but the shoes are as good as ever and now come in bright colours as well as patent, for a bit of a twist.
