With Euro 2016 in France and athletes limbering up for the Rio Olympics, the UAE’s own summer sporting showcase has come to life with the opening of Dubai Sports World (DSW).
The 12-week jamboree is back for its sixth edition, promising three months of top sports action at Dubai World Trade Centre.
Spread across Sheikh Saeed Halls 1, 2 and 3, as well as the vast Trade Centre Arena, aspiring athletes of all ages will be able to enjoy more than 25,000 square metres of air-conditioned space containing some of the best facilities in town.
Along with four five-a-side football pitches, six basketball courts, a mini cricket pitch and state-of-the-art gym, DSW plays host to the girls and guys from Dubai Pro Wrestling this year, for the first time. A top-notch ring has been built, with wannabe warriors to be shown the ropes by head coach Caleb “Vince The Prince” Hall.
Ahmed Alkhaja, a Dubai World Trade Centre vice president, is understandably excited about the prospect of three months of sporting action under its roof.
“We’re thrilled to welcome sports enthusiasts and professional athletes alike to this 12-week opportunity for indoor sports and fitness,” he says. “DSW 2016 is a unique community platform that encourages a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.”
With so many activities on offer this year, there should be a little something for everyone. So grab your kit, get out there and play. Free (prices vary for pitch bookings and coaching sessions). Open daily 8am-1am (during Ramadan); 8am-midnight (at other times). Until August 27.
