This sounds like a good idea. I need another holiday already. In that case, JA Jebel Ali Golf Resort is a great spot for your next staycation. It’s just a short drive from the centre of Dubai, in the direction of Abu Dhabi, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
But I don’t even know how to play golf. Maybe this resort isn’t for me… Don’t write it off just yet – there’s more to do than take in a few rounds. The property offers horse riding and anyone from complete beginners to Grand-National-winning jockeys are welcome to try it out. There’s also tennis, squash and volleyball if you’re feeling energetic, or head indoors for a round of table tennis or pool. And if you do fancy working on your swing, the resort houses a championship-standard nine-hole golf course, re-opens this week on Wednesday September 7 following a refurbishment. Perfect timing.
I’ll probably need to cool down after all that. Then head out for a dip in one of the resort’s five pools – across its two hotels, JA Jebel Ali Beach Hotel and JA Palm Tree Court – or down to the beach to enjoy some of the numerous watersports offered by Watercooled. Sailing, kiteboarding, windsurfing and wakeboarding are just a few. You can also learn how to scuba dive with Prodive Middle East Dive Centre, or if you already know how, join one of the dive trips to explore the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
What else can I do that’s more relaxed? You could do a spot of birdwatching. A variety of avian species call the resort home, from flamingos and peacocks to green bee-eaters and purple sunbirds.
Perfect. I love birds… their freedom to fly and all that… Funny you should say that, because you too can get a bird’s-eye view of the resort, and Dubai, with a seaplane tour operated by Seawings, which depart from the complex’s marina. The flight lasts for 40 minutes and you’ll see everything from the Burj Al Arab to Dubai Creek from 1,500 feet above. What are you waiting for?
