Before hitting the water, get kitted out with professional gear.
Swim jammers look like cycling shorts, but are streamlined to help reduce resistance in the water. Go for locally made Coega jammers for value and quality (Dhs120).
Speedo swim caps (Dhs10) have a latex outer shell that glides through the water. The Lycra-based lining won’t pull your hair, and the elastic band gives you a snug fit.
Make sure your eyewear is leak-proof and comfy. Your goggles should have anti-fog lenses and offer UV protection. Try SpeedSocket by Speedo (Dhs110), as worn by Michael Phelps.
All available at Go Sports, various locations including Mall of the Emirates (04 341 3251).
