In Dubai, there is much to indulge in. Sure, those Friday brunches are a fun way to end the working week, but sooner or later you’ll find that your waistline is a few inches bigger and your wallet that bit lighter, so working out might become a top priority. But if you find you aren’t getting your money’s worth with a monthly gym membership, there are plenty of cool sports leagues and clubs to get involved with. Arabian Knights Rugby
The men’s rugby team compete in the UAERF Sport 360 Conference (2nd division). With training sessions every Monday and Wednesday and fixtures on Friday afternoons during the regular season, the team spend a lot of time on the pitch. The game is played in two teams with an equal number of players on each side. Players are covered in an inflatable plastic bubble while trying to score goals – minus a goalkeeper. Apart from the standard rules, bumping, bouncing, rolling, flipping over and smashing into other players are all tactical parts of the game that are actively encouraged. It can be played on any open grass field, AstroTurf or indoors in a sports hall. Depending on your level of fitness, games can last anywhere from 15 minutes. They can be played in two seven-minute halves with a one-minute break. If you aren’t a fan of football, bumping competitions are also an option. Dhs99 per person (minimum eight people required). The family orientated running club welcomes participants aged from six years to 60, of any ability. Newcomers are encouraged to join and simply have to show up at one of the sessions. The club caters to time trials for 2.5k to 5k runs, interval training sessions between 5k and 42k and long distance running (15km to 30km). Free. DuKite Dukite offers a range of private one-to-one kitesurfing lessons as well as group courses. Anyone who is fit and able to swim can participate. Introductory lessons are offered as a taster session before participants commit to a full course, which consists of ten hours of lessons that can be taken over weekends. Packages from Dhs250-3,500. Duplays Ultimate Frisbee

Hamilton Aquatics Dubai
Swimming is one of the most effective forms of exercise and a fantastic way to stay fit and healthy. The club caters to all abilities including the Masters Swimming Programme for the strongest swimmers. It offers challenging sets to those who can swim more than 50 metres in three strokes and helps to increase fitness levels as well as improving your technique. Dhs400 for ten sessions. HM Fitness The gym offers everything from MMA, boxing and Muay Thai to wrestling. Members can participate in various workshops and tournaments throughout the year. The Cycle Hub The group organises three weekly rides for free, with no booking necessary. Just grab your helmet and reflective lights at night. There’s a beginners 36km ride on road bikes along the Al Qudra Cycle Track and a Pulse ride on mountain bikes starting at The Cycle Hub and travelling along a 17km or 20km route, which changes weekly. Sportzone You can play a variety of indoor sports in the court including five-a-side football, basketball, volleyball, indoor cricket and badminton.
