If you haven’t tried aquaspinning yet, you most certainly should, and with two brand-new classes launching at this Jumeirah centre this month, now is the time.
The Blend Aquabiking and Aqua Functional classes each last for 45 minutes, and are suitable for all fitness levels.
The introduction of these two new classes promise to “increase endurance, improve total body flexibility and develop core strength, meaning you’ll be well on the way to a varied regime,” the fitness centre says.
The Blend Aquabiking class is a taster of all the different classes the centre offers (Tabata, aquatraining and more), while Aqua Functional is circuit training combining aquabikes, aquatrampolines and aquaboxing (which sounds like a pretty tough trio to us).
The different stations include a variety of exercises that work on flexibility, core, balance, strength and power. And it’s also an excellent way of combining aerobic, anaerobic and muscle strengthening exercises all in one class (while being able to keep out of the heat at the indoor pool). 2 AquaFit at Sunset Mall Working out in the water builds cardio, strength and resistance. This dedicated aquafit centre has individual indoor aquabike pods to increase your fitness. You don’t need to know how to swim to take part, and you can burn up to 500 calories in just one 30-minute session. Dhs190 (30 minutes). Open daily 7am-10pm. 3 Aquaspin at Fairmont The Palm (pictured above) This aquaspin class takes place in the outdoor pool at Fairmont The Palm, so you can enjoy views of the Marina while you’re pedalling. Set to upbeat music, this is a fun, full-body workout that takes you through various phases. As well as the variations on cycling, you’ll also do body weight exercises using the bike as a prop for movements such as tricep dips, press-ups and stomach crunches. Ds75 per class. 4 Aqua fitness with Float UAE
Essentially fitness on, well, floats, this one is designed to challenge those core muscles. This low-impact aquatic exercise combines dynamic flowing movements with high intensity exercise. The resistance of the water aids the strengthening of muscles. And you’ll also improve your balance and co-ordination, too. After a toned body and more energy? Try this stress-relieving watersport. Classes currently run at Fitness First in The Meadows, but the team are looking to expand further. Sessions run daily, but the schedule will be changing from Friday September 1. Call for prices. It’s time to combine the two and swap your mat for a board. It’s not the easiest of sports for those with a lack of balance, but you’ll soon build up your core strength. Plus, if you fall into the water, at least you’ll cool down. You can take part in a variety of lessons, but Watercooled Dubai hosts classes at Jumeirah Beach, JBR, every Saturday from 8.30am to 9.30am. The sessions promise to be suitable for beginners to experts and benefits range from “strengthening the core and improving your balance to focusing your technique”.
