Some huge events are coming up as part of the huge city-wide fitness initiative, here is how you can get involved
Thirty minutes of exercise, every day for 30 days. That’s all it takes, and that’s what the Dubai Fitness Challenge is encouraging residents to step up to. In a bid to become the healthiest city in the world, some huge health and fitness events are coming to Dubai – here are 16 of the biggest events to look out for, and how you can get involved.
Opening weekend carnival
What better way of kicking off the mammoth fitness festival than with a weekend carnival? Expect a fun-packed free weekend of events at Safa Park, with Virgin Radio host Kris Fade introduce a series of fitness demos, as well as dance classes, BodyCombat – Les Mills, plus Latin Dance by Gold’s Gym. Push yourself in one of the most physically demanding challenges around. The 2XU Triathlon, while a range of difficulties are available, will also present Olympic-level difficulty and distances. Global Mala Head along to practise your Vinyasa flow at Global Mala, being hosted at Safa Park on Friday October 20. Dubai Desert Warrior Challenge This home-grown obstacle race is returning for a fourth consecutive year on Friday October 20. Promising to “push boundaries, test limites and challenge even the most prepared warriors,” the various levels of events are bound to be a thorough challenge for all levels. JLT Run 2017 If you’re a fan of the greenery and lakes surrounding JLT, then hitting this 8km road run through the streets of Jumeirah Lakes Towers is for you. It’s the first of its kind and, starting and ending in JLT Park, will end with live entertainment and group exercise classes after the race. Registration closes on October 26. October Saucony Time Trial Run Test yourself at the 5 km or 10 km time trial run, taking place at the Hamdan Sports Complex. All finishers will receive a t-shirt and participation medal, while a free breakfast will be served during the award ceremony finishing the event. Pink Ladies Games A new experience for ladies of all cultures and ages to come together for a series of games, sports, activities and unique challenges. Dubai City Swim Held at Kite Beach on Saturday October 28, swimmers can sign up for this mass participation swimming event, picking a challenge distance to suit their fitness level, style and ability. Super Sports Run Series Head to Meydan on Friday November 10 and take part in this come-all-ye-welcome running event. While seasoned joggers can push themselves in the 16km run, beginners and intermediate runners can get involved with the 3 km, 5 km and 10 km races. XDubai Spartan Race presented by Dubai Holding Barbed wire, fire, swamps. The XDubai Spartan isn’t your average 10km park run. Another of the toughest obstacle races in Dubai takes place at Hatta Mountain Bike Trail – so expect some challenging terrain. Did we mention there’s a US$50,000 (Dhs183,650) prize pot up for grabs? Dubai International Triathlon 2017 This is one serious triathlon, for the swim, cycle and run fans out there. 1.5 km swimming (which is a lot harder than it sounds, if you’ve not done it before), followed by an 80-km bike ride and a 10km run. Super Sports Mina Mile Swim Series Barasti will be the place to be for on Saturday November 11, with the Super Sports Mina Mile Open Water Swim Series taking place. Open to pros and beginners alike, choose to take part in the 200 m, 400 m, 800 m or the mile-long 1.6 km open water race. The Color Run presented by Daman’s ActiveLife Whether you’re a casual mall walker, or you run like Mo Farah, the Color Run presented by Daman’s ActiveLife is one of the most fun 5 km running events you’ll come across. It’s un-timed, it’s not competitive, and, most of all, it’s colourful. Start in white, and finish doused in every colour under the sun. Dubai Women’s Run Dubai Women’s run aims to inspire the women from across the city into health and fitness with this huge event expected to attract more than 10,000 women to Marasi Business Bay. Fitness Expo Dubai It’s one of the world’s largest fitness expos, and Fitness Expo Dubai rolls into the Dubai Ice Rink at Dubai Mall on Friday November 17 and Saturday 18. Spinneys Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge All roads point to the Spinneys Dubai 92. This is one of the region’s biggest cycling challenges in which amateurs are welcome, and will take you some time to get race-ready. Thankfully, there are a couple of build-up events left to come in October and November, so hit the road, and get ready for this monster, 92 km race in December. From Dhs300. Fri Dec 15.
