Time Out has video and pictures as a Dubai Marina basejump video goes viral. See basejumping in Dubai from residential building, Sulafah Tower
A new video of extreme athletes treating Dubai as their playground has gone viral.
Shot on a cloudy morning from near the top of 75-storey Sulafah Tower in Dubai Marina, the clip has garnered more than 110,000 views in less than four days.
It shows one the most stunning weather phenomenons in the UAE, that of blanket clouds punctuated by the sheer skyscrapers dominating the skyline - when seen from above, it is truly one of nature's most beautiful scenes.
The 90-second clip starts with a panoramic from a private balcony, showing the view from the tower out over Emirates Golf Club (not that you can see that!). Panning back, a man wearing a packed parachute and helmet is seen readying himself on the ledge, having already climbed over the railings.
After a short countdown, he leaps as footage cuts to that shot from his head-mounted Go Pro. After free-falling for just a few seconds, he releases the shoot as he enters the clouds.
Cutting back to different cameras from the start, it finishes with the daredevil landing in the construction site between Mag218 and the unfinished 23 Marina Tower. Phew!
In 2013, Australian Chris 'Douggs' McDougall, a professional base jumper and adventure sports enthusiast with several world records, jumped from a Marina penthouse at 6.30am.
