World’s top eight players battle it out for US$160,000 prize pot
Dubai Opera is gearing up to host the first live televised sporting event in its history, when the PSA Dubai World Series Finals come to town between Tuesday June 6 and Saturday June 10.
The international squash tournament is the end of season championship closer, determining the sport’s biggest winner. It will be the first time Dubai Opera has hosted a live sporting event, with the venue more accustomed to hosting plays, musicals, orchestras, and the odd banquet.
This time, the top eight players from the men’s and women’s field will be battling it out for a prize pot of US$160,000 (Dhs588,000) which is up for grabs in each competition.
Under the spotlight is defending champion Gregory Gaultier, who has won his last six world tour titles since January, and for whom an unbeaten run of more than 30 matches could be possible during the Dubai tournament. Gaultier is currently world number two; but will come up against three former world number ones during the tournament – Ramy Ashour, Mohamed ElShorbagy and James Willstrop.
