Fully electric vehicles available as of Tuesday October 10
Uber has launched the first electric vehicles in its UAE fleet, adding to the growing momentum behind the country’s clean energy initiative.
The ride-hailing app has been announced as the exclusive partner for Dubai Taxi Corporation, and will now offer the 50 brand-new Tesla Model X electric vehicles as part of the UberONE. It was recently announced that DTC would introduce a range of the brand-new fully electric smart cars, as part of Dubai’s push towards the Green Economy for Sustainable Development Initiative.
From Tuesday October 10, riders across Dubai will be able to choose from a dedicated fleet of electric vehicles through the Uber app, by selecting the UberONE option for your ride.
“We are tremendously excited to be the exclusive ride-hailing partner for this fleet of premium electric vehicles in Dubai, in partnership with Dubai Taxi Corporation, and for the clean vehicle technology to deliver out driver-partners and riders with more efficient, less-polluting mobility,” said Chris Free, general manager for Uber UAE.
Electric cars, like Tesla, are being brought in by Dubai Taxi Corporation because of their vital pollution reduction features. Uber says on top of the air and noise pollution reduction benefits, the use of electric cars will also bring a lower per-mile operating cost for its drivers, compared to those for conventional cars. The ride-hailing app says the introduction of the electric vehicle fleet will help to lay the foundations for a viable, long-term technology solution to help achieve a sustainable, clean ride.
To order your electric vehicle with Uber, download the Uber app and select the Uber ONE ride option as of Tuesday October 10.
