More than five million people visited Global Village last year, and the district (though it’s bigger than any village we’ve ever seen) has morphed from market to a global-themed part-funfair, part-cultural festival and part-market since it’s inception in 1997. It brings cultures together and visitors can travel through different countries around the world in just a few hours. Stroll from London’s Big Ben to the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy, take selfies against the romantic backdrop of the Taj Mahal or travel back in time to Ancient Egypt. Don’t miss the all-new lake and fire show and international circus.

More than 75 countries are represented, each with its own atmosphere, traditional handicrafts and even parades, plays, and all kinds of shows, from fire-breathing street performances to breakdancing and musicals.

While the Main Cultural Stage has a concert every Friday at 9pm. This year there are more than 120 themed kiosks offering street food from around the world. If that doesn’t appeal, then there are plenty of fairground rides and arcade attractions. Oh, and a robot – yes, a robot – is ready to mingle.
Dhs15. Sat-Wed 4pm-midnight; Thu-Fri 4pm-1am. Exit 37, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (04 362 4114).
