It seems the UAE has gone penguin crazy this month. For starters, there are the six Antarctic Gentoo penguins that moved into The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo last week. Part of a special exhibit, entitled ‘Melting Ice’, the penguins live in an enclosed area that’s set to sub-zero temperatures and decorated with ice beds, so they feel right at home.
Ras Al Khaimah has also been hit by the penguin bug. An army of fibreglass penguins have taken residence in the soon-to-open water theme park, Iceland. It will be the largest water theme park in the Middle East, and even has a back-story about global warming sending a frozen island of penguins onto the shores of the Gulf. Iceland will cover 110,000sq m and will house a few odd attractions, including an aqua football pitch and a rain dance pool (no, we’re not sure what that entails).
