Philippine Independence Day is one of the most important events for Filipinos, marking the anniversary of the nation’s freedom from Spanish rule. Every year on June 12, thousands of Filipino expats gather in Dubai to celebrate, with various fun-filled activities and entertainment as well as the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony.
In 2014, highlights of the festivities include the coronation of Ms Fil-Independence Dubai – a beauty pageant with cultural performances– plus a concert on Saturday June 14 at Boracay Night Club in Asiana Hotel.
Organiser Royal Crystal Events said: 'Ms Fil-Independence is happening for the very first time in Dubai. Since Filipinos are fascinated with beauty pageants, we made the concept to efficiently entice the Filipino expats in the emirates to participate in the commemoration of Philippine Independence Day. Apart from this, we believe that this occasion is a good way to revive the spirit of the Filipino culture in Dubai'.
The evening will also feature performances by two of Philippines' most promising singers, Jireh Lim and Bassilyo. Check them out below
