Where to, Time Out?
We’re walking in the footsteps of Ibn Battuta, one of history’s greatest explorers. There’s a shopping mall named after him on the outskirts of Discovery Gardens, and that’s where we’re headed. It’s a more affordable neighbourhood, with studios and one-bedrooms typically cheaper here than in neighbouring areas, yet travel times to business hubs are about the same.
Tell us more about the mall…
It’s in The Gardens, which is within walking distance of Discovery Gardens, but an efficient bus service shuttles residents between the two. Novo Cinemas is one of its many attractions and the mall’s expansion, which is still underway, features 70 new stores including the region’s first Moss Bros – the British suit specialist.
Where can we eat in the area?
A little past the mall is Mövenpick Ibn Battuta Gate Hotel, which houses 11 bars and restaurants to get your teeth into. Sicilia plates up seriously good pizza, while those after a post-work drink are catered for at Moroc Lounge & Bar. Wander amid the low-rise apartment blocks of The Gardens for a more informal setting to dine, where a couple of clusters of eateries specialise in takeaway as much as eat-in. Green Chillies offers a vast selection of Indian cuisine, including some top fish curry. The Kebab Shop prides itself on its chicken doners made from “fresh local poultry sourced on the day of preparation” and Indian restaurant Haji Sahab prepares sumptuous Hyderabadi dishes and brings visitors to these parts.
