Five places to watch Donald Trump’s inauguration

Dubai bars screening the US Presidential swearing-in

On Friday January 20, Donald Trump will become the 45th President of the United States of America, in a ceremony held outside the US Capitol in Washington D.C. While the inauguration officially starts at 9pm UAE time, many news networks will be covering the event live throughout the day. Don’t fancy watching at home alone? Head out to watch the momentous occasion, at one of these five bars, all of which will be showing live coverage on their screens.

Charlie’s Pub

Make your way down to this pub on Sheikh Zayed Road, where there are plenty of TV screens, as well as enough burgers and wings on the menu to make American viewers feel at home.
Open noon-2am. Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road (056 414 2213).

Double Decker

This British pub in Downtown Dubai will be showing the Presidential inauguration on TV screens dotted all around its cavernous setting, so you won’t miss a minute of the historic event.

Long’s Bar

With the longest bar in the Middle East and 20 television screens, you should be able to get a good view from anywhere here. Arrive early to take advantage of the happy hour, which has been extended until 9pm for the occasion, or get into the spirit of things with a burger and a round of American hops
Open noon-3am. Towers Rotana, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 312 2202).

Shades

This low-key spot is just a stone’s throw from JBR’s The Walk and has television screens both inside and out. If you want to go all-out stars and stripes, watch with a cheeseburger and hops for just Dhs95.

The Q

This bar in the lobby of the Holiday Inn will be showing the inauguration on massive screens dotted around the venue. If you arrive before 8pm, you can make the most of the happy hour. And if it all gets too much for you, the snooker table in the corner might prove to be a welcome distraction.
