With the private sector holiday for Eid al-Adha in Dubai now announced to fall from Thursday August 31 to Saturday September 2, it’s time to start making plans and putting together your itinerary for the long weekend. Here’s what to do.

Axel Blake live at Tr!beca Kitchen + Bar
British stand-up comedian Axel Blake is live at Tr!beca Kitchen + Bar on Saturday September 2. Blake’s appearance marks the return of stand-up comedy to the JBR bar, as Stand-Up Dubai comedy nights will take place on the first Saturday of every month. Brave Wavebreaker’s Jawbreaker burger challenge
Fancy a big bite over the Eid al-Adha weekend? On Thursday August 31 you’ll find The Jawbreaker available at Wavebreaker Beach Bar & Grill at Hilton Dubai Jumeirah in JBR, and its name is fairly descriptive. Two kilograms of beef patties are topped with beef bacon, cheese, onions, guacamole and an array of condiments. Finish the burger and the accompanying soft drink within 30 minutes, and your limited-edition burger will be absolutely free of charge. Fail to finish it in your half-an-hour time slot, and it’ll set you back Dhs99.

Celebrate Eid al-Adha at City Walk
City Walk, the Meraas destination, is hosting a huge celebration over the Eid al-Adha weekend. Expect pop-up stands from the locations leisure and entertainment venues, including The Green Planet, Hub Zero and Mattel Play Town between September 1 and 4. There will also be live games, quizzes, craft sessions and school arcade gaming stations such as Asteroids, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders and more. Discounts and free entry to IMG Worlds of Adventure
The world’s largest indoor theme park is giving 365 people free entry to the park on Thursday August 31 to celebrate its first birthday. Every 365th visitor will also get free entry to the 139,000 sq m theme park (featuring 22 rides and attractions), with the first 5,000 visitors through the door also getting a 50 percent coupon to be used next time they visit (between Friday September 15 and Tuesday October 31).

Eid al-Adha megasale at The Outlet Village
The Outlet Village in South Dubai near Jebel Ali is a great place to bag an absolute bargain. Over the Eid al-Adha weekend, the centre will be hosting a three-day megasale, where you can get up to 90 percent off some massive brands including Tommy Hillfiger, Sephora and Galeries Lafayette between Friday September 1 and Sunday 3. There will also be family workshops to keep the little ones happy, including cookie decorating and mini mosaics to take home afterwards. Kids under 12 will also eat free at IHOP, and there’ll be loads more discounts at other outlets.

Fireworks at Dubai Festival City
Two huge fireworks displays will take place on the first day of Eid at Dubai’s Festival City. With one showing at 9pm and another at 11pm, this spectacular, musical fireworks display is not to be missed. While there, also check out the IMAGINE water, laser and fire show.

Fireworks at The Beach
Starting on Thursday August 31, and running until Sunday September 3, the beachfront promenade will host live marching bands and roaming performers to entertain you. At 8.45pm each day a huge fireworks display will begin, while a range of family-friendly activities will also be taking place.

Free dessert for kids at Couqley

Go on a brilliant daycation to RAK

Go for breakfast at Bistro Des Arts, with the Parisian-style eatery relauching its breakfast menu available from Friday September 1. Enjoy homemade breads, pastries and more available from La Creperie, while there are also set menu options available for a full breakfast, which can be enjoyed on the Marina Promenade.

Gursha’s Eskista traditional dance nights
Following the launch of its Wednesday Kizomba dance night, Ethiopian restaurant Gursha is launching a new night aimed at bringing more of the country’s culture to the shores of the Palm’s Club Vista Mare. Eskista is a traditional dance of Ethiopia, and will be part of a new weekend show on Fridays and Saturdays, starting from 9pm.

Kids eat free at Carluccio’s
At Italian trattoria, Carluccio’s, children can dine for free over the Eid al-Adha weekend at all outlets when parents purchase one main course, with prices starting from Dhs39. The children’s menu includes a starter, main and dessert – so the little ones get a full three-course meal.

Mint Leaf of London’s special Eid al-Adha menu
The British fine-dining Indian restaurant has unveiled a specially curated eight-course menu to celebrate Eid al-Adha. Created by chef Pradeep Khullar, expect a brilliantly diverse range of dishes, including a wasabi poori and green pea amuse-bouche, rara mutton and seared foie gras or malai corn cake with stewed garlic greens. There’s even a special dessert option for the weekend – the peanut butter & chocolate nougat bar.

Nikki Beach is back
September is looming large and that means venues across the city are readying themselves for the influx of Dubaians hitting the great outdoors once more. One of Dubai’s top beach clubs, Nikki Beach Dubai, is kicking off the new, post-summer season on Friday September 1, with a brand-new calendar of events taking us through the slightly cooler months.

Queen tribute act The Bohemians live at Hard Rock Cafe
If you’re missing some good old fashioned rock and roll from the ’70s and ’80s, then head to the Hard Rock Cafe in Dubai Festival City on Saturday September 2 for a night rammed full of classic hits from The Bohemians, a Queen tribute live band. Sing along to We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga, Crazy Little Thing Called Love and, of course, Bohemian Rhapsody.
