Axe House
This new craft hops bar will open in JLT. It comes from the people behind Lucky Voice, and if that venue is anything to go by, Axe House looks set to big.

This meat-focused restaurant is due to open in the space once occupied by Clé in DIFC. Chef Riccardo Giraudi won a Michelin star for the Hong Kong outpost, and we can’t wait to get our teeth into the carnivorous offering here.

Flamingo Room by tashas

This first licensed restaurant from Natasha Sideris promises stunning interiors inspired by the fauna and flora of Africa. It will also house a shop – Collective by Charles Greig.

Key West

The classy new spot at Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Dubai officially throws open its doors on Friday September 15, though it’s already open in soft launch. It serves a fusion of Floridian, Caribbean and Latin cuisine, and also opens for sundowners and aperitivo hour.

Lock, Stock & Barrel 2
We love the Barsha Heights venue so much we awarded it Bar of the Year at our Nightlife Awards and Best Bar Food at our Restaurant Awards this year. We’re promised a similar in style and the same kind of music at LSB 2.0, which has an opening date pencilled in for Thursday August 31 or Thursday September 7. But it will be two-and-a-half times bigger than the original.

Toro & Ko
This new tapas bar is opening on Tuesday September 5 in The Square at City Walk. A Barcelona-inspired eatery from award-winning chefs Ken Oringer and Jamie Bissonnette, there are outlets in Boston, New York and Bangkok.

BarBary Deli + Cocktail Club

It’s described as a vintage Parisian hidden gem celebrating 1920s style, with deep urban music and a New York deli-style menu. It’s opening at Tryp by Wyndham in October/November.

Arabic for spice, Bhar will open at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel, Dubai. It’s the brainchild of chef Mohanad Alshamali, former head chef at the now closed Qbara, and promises to take you on a culinary tour of the Middle East.

Bleu Blanc by David Myers and BASTA! By David Myers
Myers is steadily growing his portfolio of restaurants, and these two will add to the four the chef already has in Japan and Hong Kong. Bleu Blanc will serve innovative French fare inspired by Provence, while BASTA will focus on “gourmet Neapolitan pizzas and handmade Roman pastas”.

Gotha Club Dubai
The chic club is coming to Dubai from the French Riviera town of Cannes, hoping to also bring with it the prestige of its big sister. It promises be glamorous, exclusive and one for the upper echelons of Dubai society.

Le Specialità
The Milanese pizzeria will also be based in the space once occupied by Clé. The brand is dipping its toes into international waters for the first time, and like the original, this venue will serve pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven using only the highest quality ingredients.

Tryp by Wyndham’s new poolside bar, described as a mash-up of Ibiza and Coachella, will open in October/November. Tapas bites, mixed drinks and more will be available, plus early morning yoga classes, too.

McGettigan’s JBR

It’s been a long time coming – we first brought you this news back in March last year – but McGettigan’s JBR is finally due to open in Hilton Dubai Jumeirah in October. Sláinte.

Famous for his Japanese cuisine adapted for the American palate, celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto brings his sophisticated signature dishes and original presentation to the UAE for the first time, right here in Dubai. Renaissance Downtown Hotel is due to open in October, though, we'll have to wait for this restaurant, which is scheduled to open a little later.

Black Tap
Fans of the New York joint’s mammoth burgers and monstrous freakshakes will be pleased to know that a new outpost of Black Tap is coming soon to JBR. An exact month for opening has not yet been confirmed, but we reckon it closely follow Lock Stock & Barrel in September or October. Bring on the calories.

Inner City Zoo

Also at Rixos Premium Dubai, Inner City Zoo, due to open in September/October, promises to deliver a “wild and sleek night out with a twist of the unexpected”. It sounds zany, but also like a refreshingly different addition to the nightclub scene in Dubai. Again, there are no exact dates, but we’re hedging our bets on October.

PizzaExpress Live and Le Petit Belge
PizzaExpress Live and a second Le Petit Belge are set to open their doors at the DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai – Business Bay in October/November. We hope the classic PizzaExpress brunch and Le Petit Belge ladies’ night, will be coming with them, too.

The US steakhouse is also opening at Rixos Premium Dubai. The first of two in the emirate – the other due to open at Address Downtown – expect cuts of quality meat, cooked to the brand’s signature style. We’re guessing October for this one, too.

Jan Ironman 70.3 Dubai

The exact date of this ultimate endurance challenge is still to be announced, but what we know is that it will return in January 2018. It involves a 3.86km swim, 180.25km bike ride and 42.16km marathon run, back-to-back, without any breaks. And the marathon section will take participants out into the desert.

Jan 11 Dubai World Cup Carnival

Due to a severe bout of gastric flu, Sir Elton John postponed his December 2016 show. He then also re-arranged his January 2017 date. The date is set for Friday December 8, and John “promises an amazing show”.

No amount of sandstorms can keep this festival from coming back. Acts have yet to be announced, but stay tuned, as Virgin Radio have said that the outdoor shindig will return in February 2018.

Dubai Frame
It’s been four years in the making and from October, guests will be able to step into the Dubai Frame. The 150 metre-high, 193 metre-long viewing platform will offer incredible views over Old Dubai and take in the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab, too. It is expected to attract some two million visitors a year.

Dec 6-13 Dubai International Film Festival

Get ready for the glitzy, glamorous DIFF. The event showcases the works of Arab filmmakers to a global audience and also highlights a variety of films from the rest of the world. Expect screenings of more than 120 local, international and independent movies at this year’s 14th edition of the prestigious event.

Dec 7-9 Sole DXB
The urban lifestyle, footwear and fashion festival returns to d3 at the end of the year. Details of this year’s theme are still to be announced, but expect talks hosted by designers, DJs and more, plus the ever-popular basketball tournament, Sole Ball Above All Classic. Last year’s line-up included massive grime acts and rappers Skepta, Stormzy, Little Simz, Dam Funk, so we can’t wait for announcements on this year’s live acts.

Everyone’s favourite sale will back for an entire month to see the end of the year and the beginning of a brand-new one off to a fantastic start. Snap up some whopping discounts at malls across the city. Percentages increase – meaning prices massively reduce – the further into month we get.

Dubai Safari
Dubai will soon have its very own Safari Park. We’re not sure yet if it will rival the Maasai Mara or the Serengeti, but we do know that it will be home to lions, antelopes and elephants, as well as Arabian tahr, oryx and gazelles. No concrete opening date has been given for the opening yet. The end of the year has been reported, and with the birth of its new white lion cubs earlier this month, it looks like that date is getting ever closer.
