The world-famous international auction house stops by Emirates Towers this week with not one, but two suitably glamorous sales. The Jewels and Watches auction will feature a group of personal jewels from the collection of Umm Kulthum, widely considered the greatest Arab singer of the 20th century. Last year, the Christie’s sale in Dubai sold an Umm Kulthum pearl necklace for Dhs5.1 million, so it’s likely to be lucrative.
Also up for grabs are rare coloured gemstones, watches by Patek Philippe, Breguet, Cartier and Rolex, together with a private collection of around 20 watches from the Middle East. And, if you’re not quite done maxing out your credit card, there’s yet another sale the very next day, the Christie’s auction of ‘International Modern and Contemporary Art’. If, however, you’re actually aware there’s a recession going on, viewing (as opposed to bidding) is open to the public. No harm in a spot of window shopping, right?
Both auctions take place at Emirates Towers, Sheikh Zayed Road. The Jewels and Watches auction is on April 28, 7pm. The art auction is on April 29, 7pm. Viewing is open to the public from April 26-27, 2pm-10pm and April 28, 10am-4.30pm. For more info and catalogues call 04 425 5647.
