5 to try: Early morning fun

Early birds in Dubai should check out these activities too

1 Row, row, row a boat
Trust us, there’s little better in Dubai than whooshing down the Creek as you ease your oars through the gently ebbing water. Er… but you do have to get up at 5am.

Monty’s Rowing School (050 738 0910) near Al Boom Tourist Village Dhs120 per lesson for all ages. Group lessons on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with sunset and sunrise sessions.

2 Wake up!
Wakeboarding, if you can master standing up on a plank while being pulled along by a speedboat, is incredibly addictive. It’ll leave you on a real adrenaline rush all day.

Club Mina (04 399 3333) Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina. Dhs200 (members and hotel guests) or Dhs220 (non-members) per 20 minutes, 9am-6pm daily.

Dubai Water Sport Academy (050 478 0114; www.bristol-holding.com) Dubai Marina, Marina Walk. 7am-6pm.

3 Check out a few dives
For a real high, kick start your mornings down underwater with a quick diving session. If you’re already trained you can become associated with the Emirates Diving Association and you’ll get updates and information about local diving news.

Emirates Diving Association (04 393 9390; www.emiratesdiving.com) Heritage and Diving Village, Al Shindagha, 8am-3pm.

Al Boom Diving (04 342 2993; www.alboomdiving.com) Near Iranian Hospital, Al Wasl Rd. 8am-10pm). Water course is Dhs2,350 including transport and DAN insurance.

4 Become a soldier
If you’re looking to get toned and honed but haven’t got the willpower to do it on your own, boot camp is the magical solution. Well, it must be, as this gimmick just isn’t going away.

Fitness 02 (050 955 6129; www.fitness02.com) Dhs950 per month for 12 session blocks, meeting three times a week on Sun, Tues, Thu.

Physical Advantage (04 311 6570; www.physicaladvantage.ae) Dhs950 per person for a four-week programme, meeting three times a week. GI Jane programme for women available, 7.30pm class also available.

5 The hole truth
Surely sunrise at the golf course beats the rush-hour. Squeeze in 18 holes and arrive at the office refreshed before your morning meeting. Or, better still, why not have that meeting right there on the course?

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club (04 205 4646) Al Garhoud. Dhs300 (Sun-Wed); Dhs400 (Thu-Sat) for 18 holes.
