Plans for a brand new observatory have been unveiled. The project is set to commence in the next twelve months and potential sites for the national facility include three mountaintop sites, one of which is Jain Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah, which sits nearly 2,000m above sea level. With the UAE’s climate suited to dark skies, the team behind the scheme is hoping to create a regional astronomical benchmark.
