Ken Block Gymkhana in Dubai - video

Time Out Dubai has the Ken Block Gymkhana in Dubai video. Watch Ken Block videos, shot in Dubai near Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, The Palm and more

Things to do in Dubai this week, Things to do in August

Traffic in Dubai. Nightmare, right? Well just imagine if the entire city was deserted and you had free reign of the roads - just how much fun could you have?

Well, emphatically, legendary stunt driver Ken Block has answered that question.

In a quite staggering video the Californian is seen tearing up tarmac all over the emirate, including vast stretches of Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Marina and JLT.

The 10-minute YouTube hit is the eighth installment of Block's Gymkhana series, a veritable treat of astonishing driving technique, drifting and general rag-tagging of engines. In this case, a Ford Fiesta, just not the kind you drove when you first passed your driving test.

Titled the Ultimate Exotic Playground, it features almost all iconic Dubai landmarks - Burj Khalifa, The Palm, Burj Al Arab, Meydan and more - as well as several 'so Dubai' little bits, like the famous fleet of police cars, Skydive Dubai, the golden horse statues of Al Qasr and the Dubai Fountains.

Among the breathtaking stunts performed by Block is doughnutting around a moving F-150 that is riding on two wheels down Sheikh Zayed Road, drag racing (and beating) a Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari, Lexas and Lamborghini in JLT, whizzing over pedestrianised bridges in Burj Park, drifting between stationary police cars.

At one point, apparently out in the borderlands, Block's tyres are shown so shredded they almost appear to be falling off.

The clip ramps to a conclusion on a runway strip in the borderlands, where Block repeats the feat of doughnutting around a moving vehicle, only this time, his obstacle is a jumbo jet.

Shot using a mixture of in-cockpit Go Pro cameras, cameras mounted on helicopters and state-of-the-art film equipment, this truly unlike any video of Dubai seen before.
