New pengiuns at Ski Dubai after birth of Peter

Time Out Dubai has news of new penguins at Ski Dubai. Peter was born at The Penguin Encounter at the Mall Of The Emirates indoor ski slope

Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing Peter the Penguin.

It has been announced that Sneezy and Mr Sim are celebrating today after the birth of their son.

Yes, you read that right. For those of you still confused, the news is that Ski Dubai has welcomed a new Gentoo chick, born to two of the resorts popular inhabitants.

Announced today after his birth just before Christmas, the Mall Of The Emirates attraction revealed Peter was in fact one of four new Gentoo chicks to hatch at the penguin habitat.

Peter is joined by Litmit, Apple and Pecan.

"It is our pleasure to confirm that all of our new chicks are happy, healthy and have integrated well into Ski Dubai’s penguin colony," Peter Dickinson, Head of Ski Dubai’s Penguin Department, said. "Peter, who is progressing fast, currently weights around 8kg, and is checked daily to ensure that enough weight is gained, in line with our development measures.

"Peter recently tried swimming for the first time with the adult penguins, which we're pleased to say was a great success, as this is a very important milestone for any growing penguin chick."

The programme is widely respected within the conservation society, both as a means of education and also in the fostering of a species that is struggling somewhat in the outside world.

While Gentoo penguins are not currently an endangered species, predators, infections, and environmental issues have had a major impact.

Having launched with 10 King and 10 Gentoo penguins back in 2012, The Penguin Encounter now boasts 28 of the gorgeous creatures, all conceived naturally.
