The Route 2020 extension of Dubai Metro, set to link the city with the site of Expo 2020, has been approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

To make sure you remember everything that’s important about this exciting news as well progress on The Green Line, we’ve condensed it into 10 concise and easy to digest facts. Here they are:

1. A total of 15 extra kilometres will be added on to the Red Line

2. The Route 2020 extension will link the Red Line from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station to the Expo 2020 site in Dubai South

3. The new red route will go through The Gardens, Discovery Gardens, Al Furjan, Dubai Investment Park and Jumeirah Golf Estates

4.  The Red Line will eventually link up to Al Maktoum International Airport

5. It’s expected to open on May 20 of 2020, five months before the Expo kicks off

6. Construction will start in the final quarter of this year

7. The RTA says the Red Line extension will cost Dhs10.6 billion

8. The Green Line extension will start from existing Al Jaddaf station to Academic City

9.  It will feature a rail line of 20.6km and 11 stations both underground and above ground

10.  It will serve urban developments such as Ras Al Khor industrial area, International City and Silicon Oasis
