Paying for stuff is about to get a whole lot more convenient.

Dubai's biggest bank, Emirates NBD, have announced the launch of a contactless payment service that enables customers to make in-store purchases instantly via their mobile banking app.

The innovation is a first for the Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, and is just one part of a Dhs500 million investment from the bank on digital technologies that will be made over the next three years.

So who can use it? And more importantly how?

Well, anyone with Visa debit or credit card, and an Android mobile device can upgrade their Emirates NBD app, and start to avail the technology right away.

From there, the customer has only to wave their smartphone near the chip and pin terminal for the purchase to completed instantaneously.

Speaking about the launch, Suvo Sarkar from Emirates NBD said: "The service solidifies our commitment to adopting global best practices and introducing next generation banking solutions to the region.

"With total convenience and security being offered to our customers, we believe Emirates NBD cards will continue to be the preferred payment option for the market at large."
