London’s bustling Waterloo Station is going to become a mini rendition of Dubai from September 4 to 11 in what has been dubbed the “largest ever” experiential marketing activation in the UK.
As part of the Here Today, Dubai Tomorrow tourism campaign, the emblematic station will house some mind-blowing Dubai-themed 360-degree video gaming, virtual reality displays and unique optical illusions.
These will include mirage-like characters that will be projected across the forecourt, with everything from skydivers, to falconers, scuba divers and camels.
The interactive ‘takeover’ of London’s Waterloo station is the centrepiece of a major winter sun promotional push by Dubai Tourism, sponsored also by Dubai Parks and Resorts.
Here is a sneak preview of the fantastic 360-degree videos that will showcase some of the coolest activities and sights in Dubai.
According to the Dubai Tomorrow website, watching and sharing all the videos on social media boosts your chances of winning a luxury five-night holiday to Dubai. The more the videos are shared across all platforms the more points you earn.
You will need to register as well. Here are the instructions you'll need to find out the best ways to earn the most points.
Dubai tourism has also teamed up with Instagram maestro Rich McCor, who uses the alias Paperboyo when giving iconic city landmarks a twist with cardboard cut-out creations. Here’s his homage to Dubai in London.
With the number of UK visitors to Dubai already expected to have reached one million a year, some would say a promo campaign of such epic proportions wasn’t necessary.
That’s until we remember this city’s insatiable appetite for growth and constant push for new targets. Let’s not forget Dubai’s ambitious goal of reaching 20 million tourists in time for Expo2020. We have no doubt they’re going to succeed!
