Al Sufouh Street, the road that runs from Barasti to Souk Madinat Jumeirah has been renamed after King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.

The announcement was made by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

A special ceremony was held at the most northern stretch of the long street, near where it joins Jumeirah Beach Road and Umm Sequim, while Saudi flags were hung from lampposts all the way down the six-lane carriageway.

For the uninitiated, the road is the one that is also known as Palace Road by some, by virtue of the lavish properties that line the vast majority of it.

At either end, tourists will find popular spots like the Madinat to the north, and the One And Only Royal Mirage, and The Westin at the south, plus the world famous Barasti.
