Dubai to host ’50s festival

Retro music, motors, food and drinks at Go Vintage

Get ready to head back to a time of Elvis, Marilyn, James Dean, Chevrolets, polka dot dresses and proper rock ’n’ roll, Chuck Berry style, because a week-long 1950s festival is coming to Dubai.

From Thursday April 6 to Thursday 13, Dubai World Trade Centre will play host to a throwback to all things ‘50s. “Go Vintage” is paying tribute to the musical, cultural, culinary, automotive and fashion icons of the decade, with a veritable buffet of activities, features, food and exhibitions to check out.

Expect to see 1950s themed diners (complete with burgers, fries, milkshakes and vinyl jukeboxes), an array of vintage cars, rockabilly tunes and rock and roll dancing. Grown-up guests, meanwhile, will be able to sample retro drinks in the slick Escobar lounge. Not-so-much of a coincidence is the show’s timing to make the most of the launch of hit musical Grease, which guests will be able to find in the adjacent hall at DWTC.

There’s also a retro cinema showing non-stop classic movies and cartoons from the ‘50s, while kids will be kept entertained with various arts, crafts, cooking and face-painting activities.

Head down to Zabeel Hall 3 at the DWTC for a proper blast from the past.
Free. Thu April 6 – April 13, noon-midnight. Dubai World Trade Centre,
