Russell Kane coming to Dubai this November

Award-winning comedy star to light up Madinat Theatre

British comedy star Russell Kane is heading to Dubai in November as part of the DXBLaughs comedy series.

The award-winning stand-up comedian and star of BBC television show Stupid Man, Smart Phone, will perform at Madinat Theatre on Thursday November 9, with tickets costing Dhs195.

Kane started out in comedy after colleagues at the marketing agency he worked in told him he was “really funny”.

So he gave it a go, and has since gone on to win several accolades, including the main prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010.

He’s been touring his current show, the acclaimed Right Man, Wrong Age, for the past 18 months.

“This Dubai show has taken me all by surprise a bit,” Kane told Time Out Dubai. “We kind of floated it as an idea and then it’s all happened really quickly.

“I’m not sure what show is best to tour there yet, I have two possible options. But from what I know about doing gigs for lots of British people that aren’t living in the UK, is that they love to hear stuff about their country. It’s a very specific performance where they want a mirror held up to home, so they can laugh about and remember the UK.

“I love performing to a live audience, there’s trepidation, but so much adrenaline.

“I’ve not visited Dubai before and can’t wait to come out there and have a look around.”

The expanding DXBLaughs, which was set up this year, organised the recent sell-out Eddie Izzard show, and has since announced further shows with Kevin Bridges (October 19) and John Bishop (December 14), both at DWTC.

“We look forward to bringing such a talented comedian to the intimate and beautiful Madinat Theatre”, said Girish Bhat of Done Events, organisers of the DXBLaughs series.
