WhatsApp voice and video calls now work in the UAE

VoIP calling service seems to be working, but no official statement has been released

Whether it’s a temporary glitch or a permanent unblocking of VoIP functions, it is not clear, but WhatsApp voice and video functions appear to be working in the UAE.

Like other VoIP platforms, the UAE telecoms regulator has previously upheld a ban on WhatsApp and other internet-voice services. No statement has been made by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the UAE, and so for now, we don’t know if the removal of the VoIP block is deliberate.

VoIP services are officially restricted in the UAE, despite the availability of WhatsApp calling today.
