Online auction for rare number plates kicks off

The RTA has announced the latest auction, with plates starting from Dhs1,000

An online auction has started for a range of Dubai number plates, and it’s your chance to pick up a rare one.

If you’ve had your eye on some new plates for a while, you’ve got until Friday July 28 to get your hands on your preferred number. With prices starting from Dhs1,000, you can snap up one of 250 different plates, including a few rare, three-digit ones.

But be prepared to drop a few extra dirhams if you fancy an even shorter number – some of the most expensive plates on auction are going for up to Dhs60,000.

To qualify for the auction, you must have a vehicle registered in Dubai or a driving licence issued in Dubai. You must pay a Dhs5,000 deposit either online or at one of the RTA’s customer service centres (in Umm Ramool, Bur Dubai, Deira or Tawar Municipality). If you win at auction, be sure to pay the full amount within ten days, or your deposit is non-refundable and you’ll be placed on the “uncommitted” list.

If you’re interested in taking part, apply via the RTA website. Read more about the auction, its process and how you can get involved here.
