Dubai Police launches smartphone game

World-first Friends of the Police raises awareness and promises real-life prizes

Dubai is already known for being one of the safest cities in the world, but it might also have one of the most innovative and engaging police forces, too.

Dubai Police, already known for launching a robotic police officer and having the world’s fastest fleet, told Khaleej Times that it is to launch its first smartphone game. Friends of the Police will be aimed at raising awareness of potential hazards, risks and crimes.

The game is focused on a group of friends, who can play it together, who work to find and apprehend criminals. During the game, players face a set of questions that challenge their understanding of various laws including. For instance, traffic rules and regulations.

In what is believed to be a world-first for any police force, the game also provides information about police patrols and how to deal with them. Real-world prizes include visits to the Dubai Police department and certificates from Dubai Police.

The aim is to get kids involved with, and understanding, the police force from an early age, and to emphasise local customs and traditions to the digital-first youth. The game is currently in the process of being rolled out, with the legal requirements for launching the game completed.
