Costa delivers coffee to customers by drone

Unique trial sees fresh coffees delivered remotely to Kite Beach

If you’re growing tired of the conventional way to pick up a cup of coffee, this is for you, because Costa Coffee has just undertaken a novel, and unique new delivery trial.

The coffee shop has completed its first delivery by drone in Dubai. The Coffee-Copter, as it has been dubbed, was trialled for one day at Costa’s Jumeirah Beach Road drive through store and provided locals with the chance to order one of the coffee house’s various drinks.

The ordered drink was then delivered to Kite Beach, within 15 minutes of receiving the order – it’s takeaway coffee, without even having to take it away.

“Dubai is known for leading the way with innovative technology and drones are the next frontier for instant delivery,” said Shemaine Jones, head of marketing at Costa Coffee UAE. “Our customers told us they’d love to have their favourite drinks dropped off by drones, so we’re super excited to have successfully tested this service, enabling beach-goers o enjoy ice-cold beverages without leaving the comfort of their sun loungers.”

The drone trial took place after 82 percent of Costa’s UAE customers said they would like to use a drone to deliver food and beverages directly to them. Could this be a new delivery trend in Dubai? We certainly hope so.
