Al Maktoum Bridge is due to close on five consecutive Fridays for routine maintenance checks, so if you’re going to be heading to Dubai Creek this weekend, you may want to plan ahead.
The closure is due to start from Friday October 27, and will take place between 1am and 9am every Friday until November 24.
While the bridge at the heart of Dubai Creek will be periodically closed, alternative travel plans and diversions are ready to go. The RTA says that, as part of its annual maintenance to ensure the continued safe operation of the bridge, alternative routes will be used to manage traffic in the area at that time.
“During the closure of Al Maktoum Bridge, the traffic would be diverted to alternative routed including Al Shandagha Tunnel, Al Garhoud Bridge, and the Business Bay Crossing, in addition to e4xit points of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road,” said Nazim Faisal, director of roads and facilities maintenance at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency. “These arrangements would ensure a smooth traffic flow during the closure, taking into account the closure timing of the Floating Bridge.
If you’re worried about congestion on Friday mornings around the creek area, fear not.
“The RTA confirms that the alternative routes are capable of accommodating the traffic in the area on Fridays when traffic is significantly less compared to the other days,” added Faisal.
