Shoot zombies at Dubai Mall’s epic new VR Park

More than 20 epic games, rollercoasters and shoot ‘em ups are on offer

We recently brought you the news that Dubai is getting a brand-new, no expense spared virtual reality arcade and gaming centre, called VR Park.

Well, the brand-new site at The Dubai Mall is now open to the public, and we’re certain that this place is going to be a huge hit.

More than 20 different virtual reality experiences and games await you, including an original story from The Walking Dead - a creepy, wheelchair-based zombie shooter. But it isn’t just about what you see when you put on a headset; every inch of this place has been designed to immerse you in the action.

From the real-world set design of each attraction, to the sounds, smells and even temperature – everything is on point, and everything is meticulously designed to give you the full shebang. It very much reminds us of the Ghostbusters VR game Meraas brought to The Beach opposite JBR last year – a thoroughly convincing and transporting set of experiences.

Aside from the desperate mission to survive that is The Walking Dead, to a plunge drop rollercoaster ride simulating what it’s like to be in a broken bucket lift on the edge of the Burj Khalifa, you’ll find yourself surprisingly sweaty and out of breath when you’re finished in your VR world.

And it’s not just a solo experience either, no, you and your mates can all go into the same room and work together. Check out The Raft, a game based in a Deep-South swamp, where mystical monsters have come to mess things up a bit. It’s sort of what we’d expect if Stranger Things took place in the Louisiana swamps.

In this game, you and your mates all work together to keep your raft afloat – with challenges ranging from fire-fighting (from which you literally feel the heat), to rattling off infinite rounds from a machine gun (personally, we loved dual-wielding shotguns).

Then there’s The Heist – also known as Payday 2 – in which up to four of you stave off arrest or otherwise from local police and armed forces, and bundle as much cash as you can from the vault of a small-town bank into the back of your van.

It’s frantic, it’s fast paced, and you’re going to love it.

The VR Park is open 10am-11pm from Sunday to Wednesday, and 10am-1am from Thursday to Saturday. It’s free to enter, and attractions range from Dhs15-45 depending on what you’re checking out.

But, this is one you definitely should not miss. Attractions will come and go from the park, but the foundations have been set for a fantastic new addition to this city’s growing list of leisure destinations.
Free entry (games range from Dhs15-45). Open Sun-Wed 10am-11pm, Thu-Sat 10am-1am. The Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai, www.vrparkdubai.com.
