Disney-themed festival -ing coming to Dubai Design District

It will feature top designers, animators and photographers

Around Town

Envision a place full of fairy princesses, singing mermaids and glass slippers. It sounds like a hamlet that only exists in your imagination – but in actual fact, you’ll find it in D3.

The -ing Creatives Festival is coming to the Dubai Design District from Wednesday April 11 until Friday April 13 and it’s got Disney written all over it.

The festival, which is going into its fourth year, sees superstar designers, animators, photographers and calligraphers from across the globe descend on the city for three days of creative brilliance.

Major players from Disney will be joined by the folks from National Geographic, Facebook and Dreamworks, all of which will be hosting hands-on workshops, revealing hints, tips and secrets of their success.

Among the 20 big names hosting more than 50 sessions will be animator Tony Bonillas, who worked on Moana, Zootopia, Big Hero 6, Rio, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and is currently working on Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph sequel.

Facebook’s key product designers Cat Audi will also be on hand to give a sneak peek at what happens behind the scenes at the social giant, while animator Tron Mai will be on hand to talk about his experiences working on the likes of Kung Fu Panda 2, Rapunzel and How to Train Your Dragon.

Ramy Alawssy, founder of -ing, said: “We had more than 2,500 people come along last year and it was a brilliant success. But this year, because of our world-leading speakers and great location – in Dubai Design District – we’re predicting an even bigger turnout.”

“The festival has become a key date in Dubai’s creative calendar. But it’s by no means just for people who work in the city’s creative industries. -ing is for everyone, and there truly is something for all tastes at this year’s festival – whether that’s hands-on tips from professionals on how to take better photos or a market to browse and buy clothing, jewellery, books and gifts. It will be a wonderful weekend.”

Other workshops cover subjects including how to become an Instagram hit and how to effectively pitch your ideas.

Personally we’re hoping for tips on becoming a real-life Disney princess.
