Uber has revealed changes to its fares in Dubai in a move that will see some charges rise and others fall.
So the real question is – will your journey get any cheaper? It depends on all sorts of factors, such as how long you're in traffic and how long you keep the driver waiting.
Base journey fees will now differ based on the day of the week and the time, ranging from Dhs5.40 to Dhs10.6. This could change during public holidays, but Uber would not reveal the specific details of what times and days the prices will rise and fall.
Previously, all riders were charged a flat minimum fare of Dhs8.
Per-kilometre fees have risen from Dhs1.83 to Dhs2.25 while charges per minute have dropped from Dhs0.5 to Dhs0.25.
Meanwhile, waiting charges are still Dhs0.5 per minute and minimum fares have dropped from Dhs17 to Dhs15.
Uber said it is making the change to comply with Dubai regulations, and added: “Uber remains committed to providing you with the best quality service at any time of the day. We look forward to keeping Dubai moving!”
A spokesman told Time Out Dubai: “These changes to the fare structure are part of Uber’s ongoing commitment to remain compliant with local regulations, and will apply on all UberSELECT and UberVIP trips in Dubai.
“The changes will result in higher fares on some trips, while fares will be lower on other trips.
“Uber remains committed to providing riders across Dubai with a safe, reliable, and affordable transportation at the push of a button”
