It’s one of the most famous private members clubs in the world and now it’s set to open its first overseas venue in Dubai next year.
The Arts Club will make its way over from London as part of the new ICD Brookfield development in DIFC.
The exclusive club will cover 40,000 sq ft of floor space across five levels, with an additional 23,000 sq ft of outdoors including a rooftop.
There will also be three restaurants and bars, art exhibition spaces and a business centre.
According to the club’s website, it was founded in 1863 “by men of vision in order to provide a haven for those people who had professional or amateur relationships with the Arts, Literature or Sciences”. Sounds sophisticated.
Most notable members have included Charles Dickens, artist James McNeill Whistler, composer Paolo Tosti and countless other talented arty types. We wonder whether we’ll make the cut, or indeed be able to afford it.
Annual membership costs in the region of Dhs10,000 and for that you’ll get access to a hub for creative an entrepreneurial patrons to come together and exchange ideas, eat some fine food and generally bask in each other’s brilliance.
Current board members involve the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Alan Sugar, Vanessa Feltz and Stella McCartney. Okay, now wild horses couldn’t tear us away.
Principal shareholder Gulu Waney said, “There is a strong appetite in Dubai for world-class hospitality as well as an innovative arts and events programme, and ICD Brookfield Place is the ideal hub for The Arts Club to be situated within”.
Rob Devereux, CEO of ICD Brookfield added, “We are thrilled to welcome the famous Arts Club to ICD Brookfield Place. As one of the world’s most prestigious private members clubs, it is the perfect fit for ICD Brookfield Place, which will be the premier business and lifestyle destination in Dubai.”
As well as the new opening in Dubai, The Arts Club also plans to open a venue in Los Angeles and another in London’s Canary Wharf both in 2020.
Commenting on the new openings, Alice Chadwyck-Healey, Executive Director of The Arts Club said, “We feel the time is right to expand beyond London and bring our unique Arts Club offer to a global audience. The appetite both for first class hospitality and unparalleled art and events.”
